What better way to relaunch the Bohemian Journal than by giving you some ideas on how to style our Mary Jane shoes. Everyone knows how much I love our Audrey ballet flat. There are many reasons… The first is that she’s very Bohemian, and she’s allowed us to reach you and dive headfirst into the world of footwear, just a few months after the brand was created… And because she blends Italian influence, tradition, and modernity.
Audrey is our favorite dancer. She is the result of a beautiful love story that began while sitting on a set of steps—those of the Trinità dei Monti in Rome, which is and always will be among my two or three favorite places on this planet.
That’s why, now that summer is in full swing and we’re all thinking about those well-deserved vacations, I’ve decided to dedicate this post to sharing a few ideas—in all modesty—on how to style my favorite ballet flats.
As you know, Bohemian has released the Audrey in six colors. Some of them—specifically Oxford blue and bougainvillea—are quintessentially summery. The styles in sky blue, silver, nude pink, and red can be worn year-round. In any case, I’ve tried to design this ballet flat to be versatile and easy to pair with a wide range of colors and fabrics.
Ways to style our Mary Jane shoes nude pink
The nude pink of the Bohemian ballet flat is completely different, and I would even go so far as to call it “unconventional”… I chose this shade specifically to match tanned skin. It’s a timeless and versatile color that you can wear any time of year, especially in spring and fall. It’s also perfect for summer nights in northern Spain and Europe, when temperatures are milder.
As for the fabrics you can pair it with, it goes with almost anything… Summer fabrics like linen, crepe, and silk… And winter fabrics like cotton, flannel, and wool. Audrey Nude is timeless and versatile.
As for colors, it pairs perfectly with prints, as well as both vibrant and neutral tones.
Pair these ballet flats with skirts, midi dresses, paluzzo pants, jumpsuits… and get ready for people to ask you about them.
Ideas for styling our Mary Jane shoes. What I’d wear with Silver Audrey
Ideas for styling our ballet flats, this time in a metallic shade. We’ve dubbed it “silver” for lack of a better term. Just like the nude pink version, the shade of these ballet flats is quite unique. It’s more of a metallic hue—a blend of gold and silver, or perhaps aged copper. Like the previous one, it’s a timeless color you can wear any time of year.
As for fabrics to pair with the silver Audrey, this ballet flat has the unique ability to “blend in” with them, making it suitable for both winter and spring wardrobes. It pairs beautifully with black, browns, fuchsia, and nude. You can wear this ballet flat with silks, crepes, and chiffons to create the perfect guest outfit, or go for a more casual look with jeans.
What about Red Audrey?
“When in doubt, wear red,” said Bill Blass, who certainly knew a thing or two about style. And seeing Audrey in this color, it comes as no surprise at all. Bohemian’s shade is a scarlet red that seems to have a life of its own and exudes passion and strength. I can tell you that anyone who chooses this color radiates enthusiasm and confidence… it’s amazing how footwear can reflect the wearer’s personality all on its own, and this Audrey style does it like few others.
This Bohemian-style mules go wonderfully with any fabric and can be worn in both spring and fall. We’ve seen them paired with cotton, linen, wool… and the result is always stunning.
As for the colors that look best on her, Audrey Red pairs wonderfully with prints, gray houndstooth, and various shades of blue. Personally, I think the combination of red and olive green is the best.
Pair these ballet flats with dresses, skirts, and pants of all styles. Try palazzo or skinny pants for a more refined and sophisticated look, or jeans for a more casual vibe… And get ready for all eyes to be on your feet, because the red Audrey is a real head-turner.
Ideas for styling our Audrey Mary Jane bougainvillea
More ideas for styling these ballet flats. Audrey Bouganville is a blend of fuchsia, purple, and pink. It’s the quintessential spring color, though if you wear them in the summer with a tan, they’re sure to turn heads. These ballet flats radiate pure joy and optimism.
I like to pair it with casual fabrics like linen, as well as more refined ones like crepe or silk… As for colors, the bougainvillea shade of our ballet flat is a perfect match for metallics, gold, silver, nude pink, gray, emerald green… The styling possibilities with this shoe are almost endless.
And what about the kind of clothes I’d pair them with? A surefire way to achieve the perfect guest outfit.
Ways to style our Audrey Mary Jane Oxford Blue. For when the sun is shining
The color of our most contemporary ballet flat is a deep blue, full of strength, sensitivity, and character. It’s perhaps the boldest style Bohemian has ever released, and we think it’s simply spectacular. I can tell you that it’s a shoe that really turns heads when you slip it on.
Blue Oxford is timeless, and it pairs especially well—though not exclusively—with flannel, cotton, and crepe garments. As for colors, I’m particularly struck by how well it goes with camel.
And what about the types of outfits that go best with these shoes? I absolutely love the look they create when paired with flannel coats or midi skirts that show off the shoes in all their glory… and, of course, with jeans!

You’ve said all sorts of things about this dancer… but the one reaction that’s come up the most is “Ohhhhhhhh!”
It’s a cyan blue. Although it brings to mind spring—and the best time to wear it is during this season and in the summer—you can wear it all year round, especially on those bright, sunny days.
In the spring and these days, I love pairing it with linens and silks, while this coming fall I plan to switch to flannel, which looks great with it.
As for colors, neutral tones look great with this shoe during the hot summer months. In the fall, browns, blacks, and grays create a beautiful contrast with this shoe.
When it comes to footwear, Bohemian offers this color for brides who prefer to say “I do” in flats (or better yet, in super-comfortable 2-centimeter heels). It’s also perfect for those who want to walk down the aisle in heels and then change into something else after the ceremony, so they can celebrate the occasion in style and total comfort.

That wraps up my ideas for styling our most Bohemian Mary Jane… But not before giving you an exclusive sneak peek: Audrey will be getting a makeover for the upcoming fall–winter season, which we’ve been working hard on for several weeks now. And those changes, as you’d expect, will be for the better and will bring Bohemian up to the quality standard we’ve set as our goal to achieve and maintain. These changes, which we’ll reveal in due time, and the launch of the models that will accompany Audrey in the AW 19-20 collection, will mark another step forward in our mission to offer you footwear on par with the best brands, at a reasonable price.
Because, while we drew inspiration from Italy for the Audrey design, we can say loud and clear that at Bohemian, we’re like the gladiators of Ancient Rome… generous with our efforts, daring, and willing to give it our all for our audience—which is you (and you, guys!).
